 If dispute concerning the validity of a marriage, a party may seek an action for annulment in the circuit court in Michigan. There are two statutes under Michigan law outline the grounds that could invalidate a marriage. Under Michigan law, the grounds that make a marriage “absolutely void” are

   (1) a bigamous marriage,
   (2) a marriage prohibited by the relationship of the parties, or
   (3) a marriage with a person who is not capable in law of contracting.

A marriage is voidable in Michigan if either of the parties is under the age of 16 or consent was obtained by force or fraud.
