Hiding Assets in Divorce – Is It Worth The Risk
In divorce proceeding where hidden assets are suspected, it is often the spouse  who has been accused of concealing accounts or funds that might be used against him or her during the settlement proceedings. Most women going through divorce wonder if all marital assets are being disclosed or if the husband has been hiding money or assets somewhere. If you try to hide assets from your spouse during divorce, most likely you may be caught, and the court is award fees and costs.

A spouse may try a number of different things to keep assets out of the marital estate during a divorce proceeding, including:

Transferring money or property to a friend or relative
Moving money abroad or making investments abroad
Spending large chunks of money on frivolous activities like gambling, drugs, vacations and           gifts
Funneling money through a business entity, either in dummy accounts or as wages for a fake    employee
    Altering or destroying financial records
Setting up accounts in a minor child’s name using the child’s Social Security number
Paying back debts that don’t exist

As a divorce attorney I have many legal tools, such as discovery requests for documents, and subpoenas to third parties to get access to financial records. These tools are necessary because of confidentiality rules regarding financial institutions. Once the divorce proceedings begin, the outcome of your divorce is in the hands of a total stranger - the Judge.
